About Me

I recently graduated from Reed College as a Biology major, having been academically in the top 5% of my class year for all four years. In addition to the sciences, I love theatre and the arts, and am currently rehearsing for a show in Portland! I am still figuring out my life direction, but I enjoyed tutoring in college and want to get more experience, as I am considering pursuing a teaching career.

Experience

During the last academic year, I tutored fellow Reed College students in biology, chemistry, and math. I have done both group sessions and 1-on-1 sessions. While I may not have years of experience compared to many private tutors, all of my college tutees have shown me great appreciation for my work.

Approach

As I was going through middle and high school, I often received help on my homework from my older siblings. They were very careful to teach me *how* to do the problems and prompt my thinking with guiding questions rather than simply giving me the answer. I am sure to take this experience into my own tutoring style: If you are able to guide the student into connecting the dots themselves, they will improve their understanding of the subject as a whole, rather than just the problem at hand.
