About Me

Hi, I’m Kaanan Raja, and I’ve spent the past few years helping kids unlock their full potential in English, reading, and math. From guiding students through SAT/ACT prep to working with young learners to strengthen their foundational skills, I love seeing the “aha!” moments when something clicks. I’m passionate about tailoring lessons to each student’s needs and making learning engaging and rewarding.

I’ve taught everything from college prep courses to night school English classes for families, including kids aged 4 all the way to adult learners. Whether it’s boosting reading fluency, tackling tricky math problems, or writing a standout college essay, I’m here to help kids build confidence and succeed!

My teaching philosophy centers on patience and motivation. I believe every student has a unique learning style, and my goal is to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable tackling challenges and celebrating their successes. Watching my students grow academically and personally is what drives me to keep learning and improving as a tutor.

I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Northwestern University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. My background in public health has strengthened my ability to approach problem-solving methodically and creatively, a skill I bring to my tutoring sessions. Additionally, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (B.S.) from the urbana-champaign">University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Experience

My passion for tutoring began in high school, where, as a senior, I discovered the joy of helping freshmen improve their English skills. That experience sparked a lifelong love for teaching, and I continued tutoring throughout my academic career. During college, I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Northwestern University, where I supported faculty in teaching public health courses such as Intro to Epidemiology and Biostatistics. In this role, I led discussions, clarified complex concepts, and me

By maintaining high expectations while offering encouragement, I help students stay accountable and driven to succeed.
