Fun Facts

Although it might not seem so at first, I enjoy dancing to traditional Indian music! Not just that, but I enjoy singing out loud while I'm scrolling around my house on a typical weekend. I sometimes even have days when I find it comforting to situate myself on a couch and read a novel by my favorite author, Jodi Picoult. Other days I enjoy waking up early in the morning and taking a walk down the shore of Lake Michigan.

About Me

My name is Arshila Merchant and I am an undergraduate student at the Honors College at the chicago">University of Illinois at Chicago. I am currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Neuroscience alone with a minor in Classical Civilization. My future goals are to attend Medical School and become a profound Neuropsychiatrist.

I am currently also a chicago">tutor at the Honors College. I enjoy chicago">tutoring students because chicago">tutoring cherishes and values my knowledge and capabilities. At the UIC Honors College, I chicago">tutor students in Calculus 1 and Chemistry 1. I have a specific group of undergraduates that enjoy my teaching and chicago">tutoring skills that comes to meet me every once a week for 3 hours of chicago">tutoring in Introductory Chemistry. I enjoy helping people with my knowledge and skills because I get a warm feeling when I see my tutee have an "AHA" moment and become better knowledgeable in the subject matter. My ultimate goal as a chicago">tutor is to help my tutee by finding and using the strategies that best suit the tutee. I am willing to put in the time to improve a student's grade while concurrently improving his/her organization skills.

My approach to chicago">tutor/mentor a student is to first figure out what the student knows. I would, on the first meeting, like to better understand the student in general, his/her grades, and his/her studying habits. This will bridge a gap between me, the chicago">tutor, and the student, so that the student does not feel hesitant to ask questions in the future. Then, I would see what he/she is struggling with, and see what attempt has been made to alleviate academic obstacles. Using this information, I would choose my ultimate chicago">tutoring approach. I am very flexible and, as I have said before, I will be treating every student as an individual. Therefore, each approach I take will be individual-based.
