Fun Facts
Now I am a crazy cat lady. But before that, I did what you see in "About me" and "Experience" below. I have also worked as a live voice caption operator, an art model, a roofer, in factories, picking tomatoes, and more diverse occupations. I crochet beautiful ponchos, hats, scarves, and purses without needing a pattern. I am a rural Texan born in Flow Hospital in Denton, Texas. Many of my publications tell their story in our native Texas dialect.
About Me
I have lived through 3 careers. Now retired. I want to resume a role closer to my first. I received my training at Georgetown University, where I also taught/tutored both ESL and native English speakers. In 1990 I received Magister Artium Professione Linguarum = MAT = Master of Arts in Teaching Language summa cum laude (GPA = 4.0). I have been asst. editor of Law Lines and been published several times. I received merit scholarships for studying Linguistics and Law.
Experience
My first career was teaching and I've tutored privately for decades. The job which was most recent and local was Instructional Associate tutoring writing and grammar at the Writing Center at North Lake College (now called Dallas College, Irving campus). I was also a teaching librarian, so I presented bibliographic instruction/databases/research methods to classes of students and also coached them individually on: research for their class research papers and essays.
Approach
At Georgetown University I received very good training in teaching English, teaching ESL, language testing methods, and teaching reading methods. My personal approach relies on both that training and my experience of customizing for each individual. My approach is whatever works for each learner. I will work within Frog Tutoring parameters to achieve a balance between Frog Tutoring standardization and customization for each learner.
