Fun Facts

One passion of mine is that I love to dance and competed as part of a team during college. I have a brother 13 years younger than me, which is where I developed my passion for teaching, tutoring, and mentorship. I was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States around 8 years old and had to learn English as my 4th language and assimilate to a new culture.

About Me

I am currently a medical student in my final year of schooling. I have a bachelor of science in neuroscience and have a passion for the sciences, math, and creative writing. Since my undergraduate education, I have dedicated my free time to tutoring, teaching, and mentoring. I was part of clubs that focused on improving literacy in children of underserved communities and was in AmeriCorps for a year. As I train to become a physician, I continue to mentor students who aspire to further their career goals in healthcare.

Experience

During my undergraduate education, I tutored elementary school students in underserved communities while I was in AmeriCorps and a part-time job. I also became a Learning's Assistant at riverside">University of California, Riverside, where I taught alongside Teacher's Assistant in introductory biology course at a university level. I developed a passion for teaching and mentorship that I continue to carry through my training and education in medical school. I became a mentor for community college students.

Approach

Immigrating to the United States from Germany and having to learn English as a third language at the time, I struggled in school as I was assimilating to a new culture. The language barrier made schooling extremely difficult and I easily felt discouraged to do well in school. Asking for help was difficult and at times impossible due to the language barrier. It took one person in my life, a teacher, to impact my outlook and from there, my curiosity for learning and success took off.
