I love cooking and baking and when I am not busy working or being a mom, you will find me in the kitchen making something delicious to eat.

About Me

I have a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy and my undergrad major was Psychology. I have 9 years experience tutoring Guitar, Voice and Mathematics one on one for students ages 8-18 (working at it full time to pay for my studies). My students all improved in test scores and I work with each student's unique strengths and interests to help them succeed. While their tutoring was conducted one on one, I learnt during the pandemic to tutor and counsel my clients online whilst completing my internship for my Masters degree. I have one year's work experience in the Counselling and Psychotherapy field, and would love to tutor Psychology and Social Work students as well.

My teaching style is tailored to each student's unique strengths and goals, and I take time to listen to their concerns and make the subject material engaging and fun. I typically work on the areas that my students have difficulty in by first looking at the material they already understand, and work forward from there. I use explicit teaching when introducing new content and then let the student explore the subject matter by incorporating their previous knowledge to the new content.

I graduated my Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy degree Summa Cum Laude with a 3.6 GPA. I created and implemented study interventions for students who had learning difficulties while doing my internship for my Masters degree. I have experience working with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I was born and raised in South Africa, and lived in Macao (China) for 7 years before immigrating to the United States in July 2024 with my husband and son. The traveling abroad helped me to learn to work with people from a variety of cultures and languages.

Experience

I have 9 years of experience tutoring students aged 7-18 one-on-one in mathematics, guitar and singing. I have one year of experience helping university students with learning difficulties to achieve success in their Psychology and Social Work degrees.

Approach

I teach students using their strengths and tailor my approach to each student. I use a friendly and engaging approach to teaching and use examples from the student's unique interest to help comprehension as far as possible.
