I have 4 children as well as 3 dogs, a cat, 4 snakes and a bearded dragon so it is a full house. I enjoy all the nerdy things like TTRPGs, Magic the Gathering, and Marvel Comics. Before teaching, I was an engineer making LEDs and an apparatus for removing CO2 from the atmosphere
About Me
I am a middle school science teacher in Durham, NC. As a former engineer, I like to use advanced problem-solving and unconventional thinking in the classroom to help students see the relevance of what they are learning to real life.
Experience
I teach middle school students every day and try to focus on providing one-on-one support where I can. Even before teaching, I was the lead trainer for new employees on safe practices and the procedures for conducting experiments in our lab. Though my primary subject is science, I also teach phonics and ESL to a group of students who are relatively new to the United States.
Approach
I always try to have multiple approaches to explaining difficult topics. In class, I will often use visuals, models, and hands-on activities to help students connect to what we are learning. I believe in trying to get at the why of a subject, because if you can understand the underlying principles you are equipped to apply that concept in new and different situations.
