Fun Facts

Some interesting facts about me are that I just recently had my daughter, I built my own home, and I am a homeschool science teacher. I have taught chemistry, biology, and physical science. I went to college for biochemistry, but did not complete my degree. I still enjoy science, but my dream is to be a stay-at-home mother and teach when I can. Before I got into science, I had a huge passion for music. I can play the trombone, euphonium, and some tuba. I have a good understanding, since I've pla

About Me

I graduated from high school and attended college. Currently, I am working just random jobs, but I would enjoy the ability to be home with my daughter more. I am 26 years old, enjoy gardening, teaching, reading, and sewing. When I have downtime, I like to play in my garden or work on many sewing projects. One of my current projects is a toy story bean bag. I started it when I was pregnant with my daughter.

Experience

I taught two years of math and science for a homeschool community. I have also taught chemistry, biology, physics, and physical science. I have three years of experience teaching preschoolers.

Approach

When I was a child, I struggled with reading and spelling, but I found joy in the sciences. My mother would do at-home experiments with me, using bottles, petri dishes, and other household items. Her approach to doing something to intrigue my interest is what I do for my students. Doing experiments and hands-on activities gives students the desire to learn and explore subjects that they thought they wouldn't be interested in.

Reading Tutoring

While being in college, and taking a break from it my day to day job was an assistant preschool teacher. I have 4+ years experience with small children and preschoolers. When I was a preschool teacher, it was my responsibility to create lesson plans, help children get out of their comfort zones, and create a safe space for them to learn. My favorite age group was the 2-3 year olds, but I also enjoyed teaching 5+ year olds too. I also have experience teaching children to read not just in my work life, but my home life also. I am very big on homeschooling, and I taught my now 7 year old nephew to read and write. When my nephew was around 1 1/2 he lost his hearing, and it was not discovered for a bit. It was a huge challenge for him and us to overcome, because he developed a severe speech delay, and when he was learning to speak, read, and write it became a huge obstacle. He eventually overcame this probably with enough practice, and I feel like when I helped him it gave me a new perspective on how to help children learn to read.
