Fun Facts
I am extremely passionate when it comes to anything literary-related. I love books, I love writing, and I love discussion and creativity. It may seem boring---I promise I am anything but that. Trust me, lol. I strive to release my love into how I instruct and hope that there is deeper respect for language at the end of every session.
About Me
I am a graduate student at Wilkes University where I currently study poetry. I just recently finished my thesis and earned my MA, and now I am taking another year to research and earn my MFA. I went to Hampton University during undergrad so I am an HBCU alumna. I am also big on community and creativity. I come from a very big family so I understand needing that time of day to think and process. One of the reasons why I fell in love with writing was because it was my personal space. However, I love being a part of something too especially when that something has to do with art.
Experience
During undergrad I tutored international students in English---specifically grammar, and writing. I also have direct experience in a classroom where I taught English Language Arts to 9th graders. Representing my department during undergrad by earning the honors award for Liberal Arts I know I am good at what I do. Additionally, I have experienced studying out of the country, both in England and the Middle East.
Approach
Growing up, I never like school besides being with my friends. It was not due to the education being invaluable, it was due to my presence in the classroom not being valued. I understand what it feels like to go unnoticed for whatever factors that inform this neglect. I was fortunate enough that by the time I got to high school, I had an amazing array of teachers who helped me recognize that I was never lacking intelligence, I was lacking acknowledgement and a safe space.
