Fun Facts
I love staying active. I like running, water aerobics, biking, and working out at the gym, and I make time for it every day. Another unique fact about me: I didn’t attend college until later in life, after my son went to pre-law. Inspired by his journey, I discovered my passion for academics, which eventually led me to earn a PhD and pursue a career in higher education.
About Me
I am a lifelong learner and academic professional with a PhD in Information Science from the University of Arizona. My educational path was nontraditional; I earned my GED and didn’t pursue a college degree until I was an adult. Once I did, I found a deep love for research, teaching, and supporting underserved communities. That passion has fueled my work in libraries, virtual learning, and educational leadership ever since.
Experience
My academic and professional experience includes over a decade of leadership in higher education and library services. I served as Director of Library Services at Cochise College, where I implemented innovative programs like virtual reality instruction and developed academic strategies for first-generation and Latino students. I’ve also led multiple statewide library initiatives, authored peer-reviewed publications, and delivered keynote speeches at educational conferences and graduation ceremon
Approach
My approach to education is deeply personal and student-centred. I struggled in school early on and left without a diploma. But thanks to a few inspiring educators who were student-centred, I had success in higher education. I now draw on that journey to support students who feel left behind. I meet learners where they are, create engaging, student-centred experiences, and never underestimate the power of encouragement and second chances.
