Fun Facts
I've been playing drums since high school, and I want to start a band one day. My job allows me to meet and interview some of my favorite bands, so I've had conversations with many of the people I listen to daily. I also do concert photography, so in a way, my whole life revolves around music.
About Me
I'm a freelance writer in Dallas, mainly for the Dallas Observer. I also take photos at shows for local and touring acts. I studied at Dallas College's Eastfield campus, where I also served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper.
Experience
While at the newspaper, I regularly taught new writers how to write in AP style, properly form arguments and be more clear/concise with their words. I edited every article that went into print and gave constructive feedback to help our writers improve.
Approach
I hated writing as a kid. It felt so robotic and wasn't something I enjoyed at all, but then I had a teacher in high school who helped me realize it was just like having a conversation with the paper. Writing has been a passion of mine ever since, and it's what I hope to do full-time one day.

Study Skills Tutoring
So many students don't study because they weren't taught how to take notes. It's important to determine what's important to jot down, and how to write it in a way that will help them remember later when they come back to their notes. Without a strategy in mind, it's easy to just copy down whole pages or PowerPoint slides without really retaining any information.
Reading Tutoring
I enjoy reading and reviewing books in my spare time. Part of finding pleasure in reading is knowing what to look for and pay attention to, and I feel like younger students only need a little nudge to find something they really enjoy. It's easier to make time for reading when they're actually engaged and interested in the story.
