Fun Facts
My favorite book is Jan Eyre, I love all classic literature, but romance books of any kind are my guilty pleasure! I spend my free time doing fashion.
About Me
I am a junior double major at MICA, currently working towards my BFA in Fibres and ESJ with a minor in Experimental Fashion. I am originally from Miami, Florida, but moved up to Baltimore about two years ago for school and have loved experiencing such a different environment! I am the firstborn child on both sides of my family, so I have spent all my life looking after my younger siblings, and I love kids because of that.
Experience
I was part of the Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA) program when I was younger, and this is how I discovered my love for teaching children early on. I spent summers assisting in course prep work for elementary school students afterwards. In high school, I was part of the National English Honours Society and Mu Alpha Theta while doing volunteer work at children's camps. I have spent the past two years as a tutor at Brown Memorial, working with below-grade-level second-grade students.
Approach
Learning should be fun! I encourage creating a friendly environment with healthy communication so that I can better assist the student in targeting the things they most need help with. I make it a point to create a space where they feel comfortable enough to vocalize their struggles to me openly with no shame or embarrassment, and prioritize a mutual respect between student and mentor. "I do, you do, we do" is how I tackle assignments and have found it works for students with all learning styles
