Fun Facts

One thing people know about me is that I am always surrounded by kids. I have taught them, fostered them, adopted them, and helped them become a better version of themselves. I have an awesome 17-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old orange tabby named Pumpkin who believes I am talking with her whenever I teach online. She makes an appearance in almost every class.

About Me

English and teaching have been my strong suits for years. Starting as a paralegal, I morphed into a teacher at a business college and began teaching GED classes. I am an author of a few books and am an Amazon Best Selling Author. I love to write and teach others to write their own stories or books. I just completed a course as an instructor for Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) (ESL).

Arizona Attorney General's Office - Deputy Director, Office of Victim Services
Southwest Academy – College-level Instructor, Business Law, English, business machines, resume writing (school not operational now)
Independent GED teacher (classes formed by community group)
Currently teaching adults to write, teaching teens independent living skills, teaching adults and youth to write stories and turn them.

Approach

Knowing everyone learns differently, I keep in mind visual, auditory, verbal and kinesthetic (active) learning styles. Getting to know students is critical to success. One of my favorite teachers was calm and assumed the best of his students. He was a great example. Like him, I approach my students with empathy for whatever is going on in their lives, and I am aware of their learning styles. My philosophy is that we have the opportunity to create positive change in every student.
