Fun Facts

I started doing spoken word when I was 12, and I've been dedicated to writing and literature ever since! In my free time, I enjoy paddleboarding, seeing live music, cooking, playing video games, making non-hierarchical syllabi to learn new things with friends, and frolicking :) My favorite color (currently, it's a rotating position) is chartreuse. I'm from Oakland originally, but after living in Sacramento for over a decade, this place shares a piece of my heart!

About Me

I am a senior Writing Literature and Publishing major at Emerson, with a minor in Philosophy. I've been a staff writer, editor, and reader for Gauge Magazine, Concrete Literary Magazine, and Your Magazine. I have work forthcoming or published in The Lily Poetry Review, The Crocker Art Museum, and Poetry Online. I was a 2023 YoungArts Finalist for Creative Writing (under the name Mac), and I have the embarrassing teenage YouTube reading to prove it! Last summer, I studied travel writing in the Netherlands with Steve Himmer, and this summer I will be attending the Yale Writers Workshop. While I'm based in creative writing, I've also made plenty of zines, short films, and mixed media projects. I think academia is one of the most radical things one can engage in, and I'm dedicated to making learning accessible and liberating! Knowledge is power :)

Experience

I have 6 years of workshop experience, giving me the skills to edit and provide critique on work in a way that encourages the writer to shoot for the stars.

Approach

As a child, I was nowhere near a star student. I struggled to pay attention and often felt discouraged by my teachers. It wasn't until my senior year of high school, when my English teacher lifted me and supported me and my interests, that I developed the hunger and dedication to my studies. I want to be that person for someone else now. If you have ever felt like education is merely a means to an end, I feel you. I am dedicated to making learning an engaging and transformative experience!
