Fun Facts
Learning about other cultures fascinates me, and so I have many friends from all around the globe I enjoy spending my free time with. I also have a lot of hobbies, including piano, collecting music, and playing unique board games. On my more adventurous days, I like back-packing, urban exploring, and rock climbing. However, in August, 2014 I was hiking (safely, mind you!) when I slid and fell off a 50 foot high cliff, breaking my foot. Fortunately, I am well on the road to a full recovery!
About Me
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Social Studies (Education) from the Ohio State University (3.7 major GPA, 3.5 overall). Now at Ohio Dominican University, I have completed a large portion of a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (with K-12 license). My ultimate goal is to provide quality English language education to people in a underdeveloped or developing nation. I have also taken multiple courses in International Studies of Development and Arabic.
Experience
For 1.5 years I interned as a teacher’s aide and columbus">tutor of adult English Language Learners at a refugee center in Columbus. Throughout college I have volunteered for International Friendships (IFI), providing international students with English conversation partnership and clubs, transportation, and temporary housing. For 1.5 years I have professionally led a Christian day-care/youth ministry, providing weekly Bible lesson plans and activities for children ages infant to 14.
Approach
Teaching ESL involves much more than memorization and "repeat after me." Effective language teaching enables students to excel in all academic subjects, as well as professional and social circles. My background in Social Studies Education provides a rare diversity of expertise qualifying me to columbus">tutor a variety of subject areas: history, reading, religion, geography, and more. As a columbus">tutor, I can help students with a variety of subjects-- accelerating language acquisition through its application.
