Fun Facts

I work as a research assistant at TCU and actually LOVE it! It's so much fun to be able to study human cognition in comparison with animals and see before my eyes the differences research in psychology can make in the world. I love to sing and if you ever see me driving, I am usually singing along to the radio. I really enjoy being outside, regardless of what I'm doing, I just enjoy the sun and the fresh air. I like to read for fun and am bummed I don't have as much time to do so in college.

About Me

I am a sophomore psychology major at Texas Christian University. I'm in my second semester as a research assistant under professor Dr. Leising studying cognition. I am also involved with Alpha Chi Omega, a sorority in the Greek community, and love to volunteer for our philanthropy working with women at The Women's Center of Tarrant County. After I graduate, I hope to go to graduate school and continue my studies of psychology and earn a Masters so I can then go on to a helping profession.

Experience

Although never having officially tutored as a job, I participated in a "big brother/big sister" program in my high school that paired seniors (and some juniors, I did it both my junior and senior year) with freshman, and part of that job was helping the younger students with their school work. I babysat throughout my teenage years and helped those children with their homework upon picking them up from school as well. I look forward to working again and helping others through Frog Tutoring!

Approach

I have always enjoyed school and learning, but struggled with certain subjects in my younger years. While working with tutors and teachers outside of the classroom, I was able to push through and excel. From there, I have also learned patience for those who struggle in school and am armed with alternate sets of skills and strategies to help them learn in a fun way to promote growth and knowledge!

English Tutoring

Throughout high school, I received great grades in each English courses that I took. I completed and achieved A's in both AP English courses offered at my college prep school(AP Literature, AP Language) and enjoy the subject in general. I am currently a psychology major, and although I do not take direct English courses at TCU, I still have been in the practice of reading and writing because of homework and papers that I have been assigned throughout my college career thus far.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

Before pre-algebra, I did not consider myself much of a "math person," but I enjoyed the course very much, got the hang of it, and excelled from there. I feel that I have the capability to help others reach the same potential, learn to appreciate math, and understand pre-algebra. This is essential for understanding the rest of high school math courses and even into college math courses!

Psychology Tutoring

I am in my fourth semester as a psychology student at TCU and absolutely LOVE it! I came into college knowing I wanted to study psychology and, six classes later, am still as confident that it is what I want to pursue. Because of this passion, I enjoy learning and studying the material and feel confidently that I have a good enough grasp on concepts that are presented in high school psychology courses to be able to help someone else learn them.

Study Skills Tutoring

My middle school and high school was very avid about teaching us study skills from the very beginning. I consider myself a self-disciplined person because of the skills I learned growing up and would be happy to help other's learn similar skills that work for them in order to be the most efficient and have the most success in regards to studying/school work. I would say that I am able to help others learn to discipline and have a few different strategies in which to approach effective study skills depending on the student!

Writing Tutoring

Throughout high school, I received great grades in each English courses that I took. I completed and achieved A's in both AP English courses offered at my college prep school(AP Literature, AP Language) and enjoy the subject in general. Although because of my success in such courses in high school I placed out of TCU's college-level English classes, I still have had to do a lot of writing as a psychology major, thus am not out of practice. In my history class last semester, a writing based class consisting of papers every week and a cumulative final paper that counted as a large percent of our grade, I finished the semester with an A. I am very confident that I am an articulate writer and would be able to help others develop their writing skills to a higher level.

Algebra Tutoring

For a long time, I did not consider myself much of a "math person," but I enjoyed learning pre-algebra and algebra very much, got the hang of it, and excelled from there. I feel that I have the capability to help others reach the same potential, learn to appreciate math, and understand algebra. This is essential for understanding the rest of high school math courses and even into college math courses!

History Tutoring

I have taken two history courses and one political science course in my two years as a student at TCU, both history classes of which I received an A. I am not a history major, but I have always enjoyed it throughout middle school, high school, and now. That pleasure of learning about history allows me to endure the subject without getting bored or frustrated upon going over it, which would allow me to be helpful in tutoring others trying to study/learn history!

Homework Coach Tutoring

My middle school and high school was very avid about teaching us study skills from the very beginning. I consider myself a self-disciplined person because of the skills I learned growing up and would be happy to help other's learn similar skills that work for them in order to be the most efficient and have the most success in regards to studying/homework. I would say that I am able to help others learn to discipline and have a few different strategies in which to approach effective study skills depending on the student!

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Throughout high school, I received great grades in each English courses that I took. I completed and achieved A's in both AP English courses offered at my college prep school(AP Literature, AP Language) and enjoy the subject in general. Although because of my success in such courses in high school I placed out of TCU's college-level English classes, I still have had to do a lot of reading in my courses in the past four semesters, thus am not out of practice. In almost every course I have taken throughout my two years at TCU has required a certain level of reading comprehension in order to keep with the pace of lectures in the classroom as well as scoring high on reading quizzes and other such assessments.

Elementary Math Tutoring

Elementary level math is something I have confidence in my ability to help others learn. I struggled with math when I was young, but throughout those years of having extra help and learning to later appreciate math, I have patience for those who may struggle with it as well and other strategies that may help those struggling learn!

Science Tutoring

As an elementary student, I LOVED science! It was one of my favorite subjects and I scored well in those classes, and I am not out of practice as I recently took the course Contemporary Issues of Biology class at TCU as well. Although not currently enrolled in a science course, I am a psychology major and certain aspects of what I study can relate to sciences I learned all the way back in elementary school science!

Social Studies Tutoring

I have taken two history courses and one political science course in my two years as a student at TCU, all of which I scored high grades in. I am not a history major, but I have always enjoyed it throughout my schooling, including now! That pleasure of learning about social studies allows me to endure the subject without getting bored or frustrated upon going over it, which would allow me to be helpful in tutoring others trying to study/learn this subject!

Spanish Tutoring

I took spanish every year from 1st grade until I graduated high school, enjoying it and scoring high grades throughout those years. My mom is fluent in spanish and my uncle lives in Costa Rica, thus spanish is not irrelevant for me since getting to TCU. I enjoy spanish and consider myself fluent enough to be able to successfully help elementary students learn spanish in an efficient and also fun way!
