Fun Facts

I enjoy spending time with my friends and family when I'm not working or studying. I also love pets and I have a dog named Tanner and a cat named Taser who loves to play. I go to school at UTA and will graduate in May 2013.

About Me

In the fall, I will begin my senior year at the University of Texas at Arlington where my major is early childhood education. I am very excited to begin student teaching full time in the spring of 2013. I can't wait to have my own classroom someday in the near future!

I began tutoring 1st and 2nd grade students in October 2010 through June 2011 who needed extra help with math, reading, and writing. In September 2011, I began tutoring kindergarten students in reading and helping those who were behind, with their alphabet. I will continue to work with that same group of students for the remainder of the 2012 school year. The church that I attend has partnered with a nearby elementary through a mentoring program called Kids Hope USA. I am the director of this program and I also mentor a 4th grader. We began meeting in January 2012 and we will continue to meet for the remainder of the 2012 school year. I am also a leader for my church's 5th and 6th grade youth group on Wednesday nights.

I believe that students learn best when they feel safe with and can trust their teacher or tutor. It is important for teachers and tutors to be engaging when explaining new material to students so that learning can be enjoyable and even fun. Patience is a very important quality for teachers and tutors because sometimes it is necessary to explain the same things many times and in different ways before a student is able to grasp a new concept.
