I love staying active and trying new things. One of my favorite things to do when I have spare time is go rock climbing. I also enjoy reading and finding a great series to lose myself in.

About Me

I am currently a junior at the University of Texas at Arlington. I am majoring in early childhood education and will start my field work this coming fall. My ultimate goal one day is to open up my own child care center. I have always had a passion for children and I love the idea of becoming an entrepreneur and being my own boss.

Currently, I am a volunteer at a non-profit tutoring center for students who cannot afford tutoring elsewhere. I have had the opportunity over the past several weeks to assist several students in their math, reading, and science classes. I have been able to connect with these students, gain their trust, and make significant strides in many areas of their education. For example, I helped a fourth grader jump over the hurdle of fractions and decimals, as well as showed her a better way to organize her binder and homework. I try to help students not only in their subject areas, but also in organizational skills, testing strategies, and wherever else I can to help them become better and more well-rounded students.

I believe the best approach to tutoring is a one-on-one session in which the tutor gives positive reinforcement and motivation for the student to succeed. It is up to the tutor to plan ahead, stay focused, and be patient. For me, having patience is a big deal in order to ensure the student does not become frustrated. Avoiding frustration and staying positive is key to learning and progressing. I also love coming up with new ideas to explain and simplify difficult concepts, particularly in math. For some people, math can be a completely differently language, and part of my approach to tutoring is finding a way to translate it into something relatable that makes it easier to understand.
