I regularly go to the Giant Panda Cam website to see what the giant panda cub BaoBao is up to. And I love documentaries about giant pandas, penguins and African safaris. Born and raised in Beijing China, I do love authentic Chinese food, though sadly, I don't know how to cook them.

About Me

I graduated from washington-university">George washington-university">Washington University last December with a B.S. degree in mathematics, with special departmental honors. This semester, I am auditing three math courses as an alumni at GW, while preparing for my Ph.D. study in math Fall 2015. Ultimately, I want to be a professor and researcher at a university where I continue my journey of learning, applying and creating math.

Experience

During my junior year, I volunteered as a math washington-dc">tutor at a local high school, where I provided homework help and exam preparation, in Geometry, Algebra and AP Calculus. I enjoy helping students understand mathematical concepts and apply them to solve real-life problems.

Approach

When working on a problem, I always first listen to the student's idea and naturally build upon his/her understanding to the correct answer. After each session, I would encourage the student to write a brief summary about the topics/formulas taught this week, the types of problems in the homework and the idea of solutions accordingly. I personally feel it is extremely helpful to summarize the lessons weekly, before facing a big test.
