Fun Facts

I am new to the Albuquerque area as I was born and raised in Ohio and love college football! When I'm not teaching or studying, you can normally find me outside with my puppy, Lupin--he's a labrador and shiba inu shelter rescue. My favorite movie growing up was Jurassic Park and it remains a favorite of mine to this day.

About Me

I am a first year Ph.D student at the University of New Mexico. Prior to starting my Ph.D, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my master's in Literature with a 3.9 GPA and received my bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University with a major in English and minors in Political Science and Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Upon graduating with my doctorate degree, I will become a college professor.

Experience

I have a lot of experience working with learners at all ages. During my master's coursework, I tutored at the university writing center, helping undergraduates improve their writing skills a well as reading-comprehension/new-mexico/albuquerque">reading comprehension. Along with that, I tutored history students with World and American history. This past summer, I worked with the Institute of Reading Development as a reading-comprehension/new-mexico/albuquerque">reading comprehension instructor, teaching preschool-age learners all the way up through professionals in the workforce.

Approach

The most important thing a teacher or albuquerque">tutor can do is to listen. Listening means that you understand where a child or student is coming from and are able to meet them at their skill level. Listening also means getting to know a student as a person and finding out how to best reach them--everyone learns differently! Growing up with a learning disability has made me more sympathetic to struggling learners and has also helped me develop my own personal techniques that I hope to pass on to others!
