This will be my first summer in 6 years that I am not working at a summer camp. That job made me interested in becoming a pediatrician and medical school has just confirmed this for me. I wasn't always going to go to medical school though- my original life plan was to become an actress and I spent every free second I had in high school performing. Though I no longer perform, seeing shows is one of my favorite things to do!

About Me

I'm Jaclyn and I'm currently finishing my first year of medical school. Before medical school I was a student at the chicago">University of Chicago. I love science, reading, spending time with friends, and spending time outdoors. I always feel successful if I can get others as excited about science and learning as I am!

While in college I was a teaching assistant for various classes including Biology for non-majors, an extra-help Organic Chemistry class, and an upper-level Biology class focused on reading research articles. These very different classes taught me that everyone really has their own approach to learning and different interest levels in the material. Even if it is a class that you don't like it is still important to get excited about what you are learning to understand it. Though not as academic, I also taught a middle school acting class and was a group leader for several years at an overnight summer camp, so I have worked with all age groups.

As I said, I think it is really important that everyone learns at their own pace and finds a way to connect to the material. I personally like to learn by listening, reading, re-writing, and if possible drawing the information. If I learn in 4 modalities then I assume that everyone has their own personal style and I feel that it is important to find that out the best way that you personally learn and then to use that as much as possible.
