Fun Facts
I was born in Columbus, Ohio just five minutes away from where I would eventually attend college at The Ohio State University. Go Buckeyes! I love fitness and outdoor activities including hiking, biking, running, and kayaking. When I’m not in the outdoors enjoying the sunshine, I’m either reading a history book or watching some type of Ohio State sports team.
About Me
Last spring I graduated from St. John’s University, where I received my Masters in American History. Prior to St. John’s, I taught Math and History at a boarding school, while working as a private tutor in Math, History, English, Writing and study skills. Prior to teaching, I attended The Ohio State University, while majoring in Economics, and minoring in American History. My ultimate goal is to eventually start my own learning center.
Experience
I have been working with students of all levels, ages, and abilities for close to ten years. In high school, I worked as a Junior and Senior counselor at a summer camp working with grades kindergarten to fourth grade. This established my passion of wanting to work with students, and helping them in their academic needs. This is why I majored in Economics and History, giving me the platform to assist students of various ages in different subjects.
Approach
My approach consists of two key concepts: positive reinforcement and constant encouragement. This approach does not allow students to get down on themselves, but makes them want to learn and have the confidence to learn. All students are different, and all students learn differently. By making them feel comfortable and confident, I make it easier for them to improve in the subject matter.

As a Graduate Assistant and Teaching Assistant, one of my duties was to assist undergraduates in all stages of the writing process. This was not limited to just history courses, but also included various English and other creative writing courses.
History Tutoring
As a Teaching and Graduate Assistant at St. John's University, I tutored undergraduates in classes covering all aspects of American History, while maintaining a 3.88 GPA. Prior to St. John's I also taught American History at a boarding school, while also working as a private tutor.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
With my background in History at Graduate School, reading was a large component of my degree, as we had to read between 600 to 1,000 pages weekly. Furthermore, as a teacher, reading was the most challenging aspect for the majority of the students. I spent a great deal of time and effort tutoring the students and offering them advice with reading, and more importantly strategically reading. I showed them how to find the authors main argument in the most time conservative way.
Study Skills Tutoring
As a private tutor for high school students, I have worked with students who needed study aid in all subjects. The key component I have found is a combination of forming good study habits early, and being organized. While teaching in high school, I found that most students know how they learn, the key for them is maximizing this when to study in a time efficient way.
Writing Tutoring
I have extensive experience in writing, writing tutoring, and writing teaching. As a teacher and graduate student, I assigned and assisted both high school students, and college undergraduates papers, while also helping them in all stages of the writing process. As a Masters student, I wrote an 80 page Thesis composed mainly of primary sources, on an original idea of the Civil War.
Writing Advance Tutoring
As a Graduate Assistant and a Teaching Assistant, one of my many duties was to assist college undergraduates with their term papers. I aided students in all areas of the writing process including but not limited to, paper topics, research, essay citations, formatting, editing, and a sounding board to bounce ideas off of. With this position, I worked with various levels of students who were writing for very diverse assignments, and who had diverse backgrounds. Therefore, I tailored my lessons and instructions to a broad audience.
Algebra Tutoring
I taught high school Geometry for one year, while tutoring middle school students with various ages and abilities. This has provided me the patience and understanding needed to reach all middle school math students, regardless of age and abilities.
