Fun Facts
Despite my struggles to read as a child I am now a voracious reader, and am known to read anything and everything! I grew up in North Wales where we raised Old English Mastiffs, and had a European Eagle owl called Barney. My mum used to drag me around museums and stately homes as she read every plaque in sight. I hated it! Now we are like the gruesome twosome, dragging each other around museums and blocking out the world. At first sight I seem slight and unassuming but I have trained in Thai box
About Me
I recently graduated from University in the UK with a BA (Honours) in Humanities with English Literature and Art and its Histories. I have a passion for literature; both the self-expression writing offers and the self-exploration reading exposes the reader to. At the moment I am publishing my first book aimed at young adults. Art history came into my life by accident, but if I look back at my early years it seems inevitable I would fall in love with European history, and it's impact on art. My goal is to gain my Masters in Art History, and become a full time teacher, either here in the US or back in the UK.
Whilst I was volunteering at an elementary school in North London (UK) as a teaching assistant, I helped with math, reading and writing. A lot of the children couldn't speak English, so learning to read was how they learnt English. It struck me how vital these basic skills are when I met some parents, they couldn't speak English either. I realised the children were going home to teach them so they could gain employment. The whole families financial security rested upon these 4-8 yr olds tiny shoulders. This experience only reinforced my belief that education is the foundation we build our lives, and being a tutor will enable me to expose pupils to the vast range of options they have.
My mother and uncle are both teachers, so you could say it runs in the family! I belive in encouraging pupils to ask questions, and if I don't know the answer we can discover it together. Sadly for my students I never give them the answer. I encourage self-expression through writing and art, and promote organisational skills at all levels of education. Being a tutor is about bringing the subjects to life, and open students eyes to the fact - you can be anything you want!
