Fun Facts

As a college student, I am living with three other roommates at an apartment very close to my campus. I love to read and work on things at a cafe alone or with my friends. Other things that I like to do are finding recipes online to cook and bake as well. My hometown Is El Paso, Texas which is really far from Austin so I do not get to visit my family back home that much. My nuclear family consists of my parents and an older sister who is also attending UT as a chemistry major. She is planning to graduate within half a year and stay in Austin for a job. I am also planning to stay in Austin for my career since I have been gaining such great educational, work and volunteering experiences here.

About Me

I am currently a fourth year college student at University of Texas at Austin studying education/texas/austin">Special Education. I have been working with students with and without disabilities for about a year now and those experiences have been such a meaningful time for me to grow as a professional teacher. I really love working with students to help them succeed in school as well as building relationships with them as a mentor.

Previous austin">tutoring experiences include volunteering as a kindergarten teacher at my local church and at a public library in Austin. I have worked with elementary through middle school students in math and reading/language arts. I have gained a lot of meaningful relationships and experiences that had positive effects on me as a austin">tutor.

My approach to austin">tutoring is by setting high expectations for my students. Personally, I have experienced situations in which students feel very discouraged by their school performance and their first expectation of me was to set low expectations in which I did not enforce high academic standards for them. But my approach is a total opposite because I build high expectations for every student, knowing that all of them are absolutely capable of achieving those academic goals. Of course the goals need to be reasonable and realistic to meet their strengths and weaknesses but this doesn't mean that I can just go easy on students who have shown to perform poorly at school. They may just need proper and meaningful guidance and support.
