Fun Facts
People think I am crazy, but I LOVE running! In the last 3 years, I've run 8 half-marathons and 2 other double-digit races. I also am addicted to Starbucks Chai Tea Lattes. They've gotten me through too many study sessions to count!
About Me
I am a PhD student in International Affairs, Science, and Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My dissertation focuses on counterterrorsim, counter-biological weapons, and naontechnology. I've been on the Dean's list every semester of graduate school and all but two semesters of undergrad (darn Chemistry classes!).
Experience
I have tutored individuals in English, writing, and history since high school, when I would help my friends study. As a doctoral student, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of students of different backgrounds, including international students. I have served as a Teaching Assistant for 3 semesters. Among my responsibilities was working individually with students to ensure they understand class material as well as leading discussion and review groups before exams.
Approach
One of my favorite moments as a wichita">tutor is seeing the look on a child's face when he or she "gets it." Not only does this give the student a new level of confidence, but it also gives us both a sense of accomplishment. I understand that every student is different, but I am willing to do whatever is necessary to reach a student. As a wichita">tutor, I strive to teach students the material for their class, but also to give them the skills and confidence they need to be successful in all of their classes!

Writing Tutoring
In addition to my I B.A. in English-Creative Writing from Berry College in May of 2007, I have also pursued a career field that relies heavily on writing well. As such, although none of my coursework in my Masters and PhD includes "writing" in the title, I have studied writing throughout graduate school. Every class that I have taken in graduate school required at least one 20-page paper meaning that, over the course of 4 years, I have written at least 800 pages in that time, not including academic articles and presentations. My cumulative average for both my Masters and PhD coursework is a 3.8 and I am frequently complemented on my writing by my professors.

Math Tutoring
Although my degrees are not in math, the technical focus of my work requires me to have an understanding of mathematical concepts. Not only did I take Calculus I, 2 semesters of Chemistry, and Astronomy during my undergraduate career, but I also completed 3 semesters of graduate-level Materials Science and Engineering courses for my PhD minor. Given this background, I am confident that I can help your child with his or her elementary-level math homework, and I look forward to using a different side of my brain!
