Fun Facts
I am passionate about many things in my life. First, I love spending time with my family. I have a husband and two children, ages 16 and 11. We enjoy watching and going to the movies, going to my son's soccer games, and just being with each other, hanging out at the house. I also love art and art history, reading, and anything that has to do with Pinterest. I could spend HOURS on that site if I had the time!
About Me
I am a highly qualified, veteran classroom teacher. I am certified to teach a self-contained classroom, K-12, as well as history, 1-8. Also, my most precious certification is in education/texas/fort-worth">special education, grades K-12. I have a B.A. in elementary education, and a minor in history. I have an M.Ed. in education/texas/fort-worth">special education, as well as an M.S. in counseling.
Experience
I have been teaching for 17 years. Although I have spent the majority of my time teaching 6th grade reading and math, I also have taught 3rd and 4th grade, as well as doing my student teaching in the 5th grade. I have enjoyed teaching at both public and private schools. I have privately tutored in the past, and especially enjoy working with students in small group and individual settings.
Approach
There are two things which really have influenced my approach to both teaching and and tutoring. First, I struggled with math in middle and high school, but now, I truly love teaching it and I feel that I have a heart for students in the same situation as I was. There is no generic way of approaching a tutoring position, You have to take the student from where they are and give them the skills to be successful. Students are unique and I feel that I have a real feel for treating them as such.

MastersPre Algebra Tutoring
I have tutored pre-algebra several times in the past. All of my professional development in FWISD is geared towards getting the students ready for algebra. Because of this, we teach many pre-algebra concepts in the 6th grade math class.
English Tutoring
Reading and English are near and dear to my heart. I took many courses in college related to literature and literary tradition. I feel that this is one of my true teaching passions. Novel studies are my favorite things to teach in the english/language arts arena.
Homework Coach Tutoring
This is the basis of my private tutoring experiences. I love the daily in and out of homework and never knowing quite what you'll get as a tutor, such as the assignment itself.
Math Tutoring
I have been teaching math at the 6th grade level for the past 12 years. I enjoy all aspects of the subject material and have learned so much about teaching it over the past 12 years. I am a part of the BEST middle school math department in FWISD.
History Tutoring
My minor in college is History. My father is an American Historian at the collegiate level, and I guess you could say the study of history is just in my veins. I do believe I have a gift to make this subject make sense with my vast knowledge in connecting experiences within humanity.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I am a voracious reader. I recently taught a STAAR prep class here at school. I am a firm believer in the power of books and words in general.
Religion Tutoring
Religion is a HUGE part of my life. I study religion frequently in reading and attending classes, which I audit or take online. I believe my study of religion and my genuine interest to continue studying it most assuredly qualifies me tutor religion.
Science Tutoring
I have taught science to students with special needs three times in the past several years. I am comfortable with earth, life,and physical science up to the 8th grade.
Study Skills Tutoring
I am a very organized and studious individual. I think that I have devised some well-balanced study skills, which I implement in the classroom.
Writing Tutoring
I write and journal frequently. For the past 4 years, I have co-taught in an english/language arts classroom. Much of our writing at the 6th grade level is getting the students ready for the 7th grade STAAR writing test.
