I was drawn to English because of language's ability to express anything you can think of to any possible audience, because I believe that human interactions are of supreme importance. I'm a huge phoenix suns fan (and former D-backs groupie) and at the time of this post I'm extremely interested in the fate of Steve Nash and the potential of our latest draft pick. I'm also crazy into music-I own the complete discographies of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and the Black keys, but I also like RHCP, Norah

About Me

I'm optimistic and motivated, but still figuring out exactly where I want to go with that. I'm studying for the LSAT while planning to take some pre-med classes because all I really know is that I excel at academics and I'd like to see how far that can take me. I chose English and Psychology as an undergraduate because I'm fascinated by the dynamics of human understanding and communication, which would--I feel--make me the perfect tucson">tutor. I'm still trying to figure out how to use education to straddle the line between benefiting society and benefiting myself so that I never have to regret what I could have done in either sphere.

I have volunteered and bonded with elementary school children of all ages. In high school I was the straight a student that all the other honors kids went to for instruction on the finer points of math and writing, and I attended leadership camps and worked actively with my community. In college I headed group assignments, kept members on task, organized study sessions, developed mnemonic devices, and enrolled in an honors class which required extra-curricular tucson">tutoring.

As a student of Psychology I believe in positive reinforcement. It's important to establish the basics, both in order to ensure the student is prepared to move on and in order to bolster the confidence of students who may doubt their ability to master more complex ideas. tucson">Tutors and teachers have to be careful not to allow the pace of the material to surpass the pace of the students understanding, otherwise important connections may not be made. I am creative and skilled at metaphor, oratory, and visual art, and I am not only aware that all students have different preferred learning styles, but prepared to accommodate their needs and employ the most effective technique.
