Fun Facts

I enjoy being involved in many different activities. I have played soccer throughout my life and played four years at the varsity level for my high school. I continued to play on the intramural team for my sorority at TCU as well. I also enjoy running in my free time and just completed my first half marathon in San Diego for the Rock ‘N Roll Series benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I have used running for not only recreationally but also to help raise money for various charities by running in numerous holiday races. Another one of my interests is playing piano. I have played piano since I was six years old and have achieved a superior rating while participating in the National Federation Piano Festival. My recruitment chair for Kappa Alpha Theta has also asked me to play during our recruitment this August. My biggest passion I have had throughout life is community service. I have been on mission trips for my church in both Mexico and Iowa, and helped organize a local Habitat for Humanity workday held at my church. My senior year of high school, I was asked to aid in the ISD class for the intellectually disabled students, which was very rewarding. I continued to help the community in college by volunteering at both KinderFrogs and TCU LEAPS. My quirkiest habit is that every time I leave my car, I have to turn the volume down to zero, every time.

About Me

I am a sophomore at Texas Christian University from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am studying Speech and Language Pathology with Spanish minor. My love for helping those in need is one of the many reasons why I would someday like to be a speech pathologist. Growing up in New Mexico, I have frequently heard Spanish being spoken and have always possessed a fascination of learning the language. After seven years of learning Spanish in the classroom, I am very close to my aspiration of one day being able to speak fluently and plan on studying in Seville for a semester to help myself reach that goal. It’s also a dream of mine to help not only English speakers with speech impediments but Spanish speakers as well. I am a very hard worker, with a 4.5 GPA in high school and a 3.74 GPA in my first two semesters of college. I am also a student in the John V. Roach Honors College, and a member of the Gamma Psi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at Texas Christian University.

I have always been the person my friends and classmates go to for help on assignments and studying for exams. In addition, I help my younger brother in subjects I have already learned in which he is struggling. I have also spent my past two summers working with 6 and 7 year old girls as a camp counselor, helping them in a variety of activities including swim lessons, sports, and learning different social and educational tools.

When helping someone understand a concept, I exhibit utmost patience with them. I also try to present it in a way that is easy to understand. I encourage them to ask questions and make sure they understand the concept fully until moving on to new material.
