Fun Facts

Since I was raised on a farm, I am still a country girl at heart. I enjoy reading, bicycling, knitting and crochetting, singing (although I can not carry a tune, and line dancing of all types. Being outside enjoying nature is where I find comfort. I have been accused of being a "tree hugger."

About Me

I graduated from college later in life, receiving my Bachelor's in Social Work in 2009, from Capital University. While attending Capital University, I worked in the Columbus City School System as a Special Needs Instructional Assistant. This prompted my desire to return to Capital to obtain my teaching licensce in Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist. I will usae this license to columbus">Tutor students from Pre-k through 12th grade. I plan to columbus">tutor in school systemns and privately. Currently, I am begining my eighth year with this school system, and enjoy it very much.

Working with Columbus City Schools, I have had many opporunities to work with students one-on-one. I worked one-on-on with a High School student for two months, in Walnut Ridge High School. For five months, in Scottwood Elementary School, I worked one-on-one with a student in Pre-K. These two students were the most rewarding for me. When our sessions ended, the students showed improvement in their academic and social skills, and I felt I had truly made a difference in their lives. I have had numerous opportunities to work with different students, in different schools throughout the system, on a shorter term basis. During my course work in Capital University, I had the opportunity to columbus">tutor the same student for two semesters. With all the students, we developed very positive relationships.

With all the students I work with, I believe in assisting them in finding the answers themselves. I believe in teaching students how to find answers to their questions by developing alternative thinking methods. If one way of teaching does work I "try another way." My background in Social Work assists me in my columbus">tutoring endeavors. I believe I am naturally empathetic, caring, and patient with all students. If a student comes to the columbus">tutoring session in a "mood," I will take a few minutes to find out how we can get past this to still work effectively toigether.
