I am a people person and enjoy learning! I am currently looking for a high school History teacher position while I attend NYU for my M.A. In Literacy Education. I grew up on Long Island, went to college in Chicago, studied abroad in Rome, and lived in Florida for three months while on a maritime archeology excavation. I am a huge baseball fan (go Yankees!)

About Me

I recently graduated Cum Laude from chicago">Loyola University Chicago with a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Education and will be attending NYU in Fall '12 to earn my M.A. In Literacy Education. I hold an Illinois Secondary Teaching Certificate, Type 09, sixth through twelfth grade. I hope to become a middle school/high school history teacher and incorporate reading and writing exercises into my daily lessons. I love working with children! I am eager to teach the knowledge and skills necessary for each student to reach their academic potential. My willingness to take on new challenges along with my passion and enthusiasm for teaching is what makes me an excellent candidate for this tutoring position.

I have experience tutoring many different types of students, all with varying needs. In high school, I had tutored underprivileged middle schoolers in reading and writing comprehension. While I studied abroad in Rome, I had the opportunity to work with a local high school girl who wanted to improve her reading, writing, and speaking skills in English. While I was a student teacher at Urban Prep Academy for Young Men and Von Steuben High School in Chicago, I held weekly after school tutoring sessions. Although I was tutoring history and sociology, I made sure to incorporate reading and writing exercises that will help the students develope the skills necessary for class exams in every content area, state tests, and SAT. Each of these tutoring experiences were rewarding because I was able to see students find personal success and academic achievement.

I believe that a tutor must posses persistence, confidence and positive reinforcement. No child enjoys the feeling of struggling and needing extra help. That is why I understand the value in incorporating these three characteristics and attributes into each tutoring session. It is crucial for the student to understand that they are not being tutored because they are '"not smart." They should understand that they are smart
