Cooking is one of the most exciting and rewarding hobbies of mine. I am always working with fresh ingredients and trying out new recipes--albeit not all are successful! When I'm not kneading dough for my homemade pecan pie or picking tomatoes from my garden to use in sauces, I enjoy exercising and rooting for my favorite sports teams.

About Me

I am a college graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and I am originally from New York now living in the Dallas, Texas area. I have spent most of my career in insurance focusing on renewable energy and other clean technologies. Before then, tutoring was my first professional job, which I have done steadily over the years. Latin is my strongest and most experienced subject, but I am also able to tutor a variety of English subjects.

Experience

As the Most Outstanding Senior in Latin in High School, and with 3+ years of experience tutoring college students, and over a decade of tutoring professionally, I have had tremendous success in helping students who struggle with Latin using concepts that have worked for me. My experience has afforded me with a tremendous skill set in developing a curriculum to match each student's individual learning style. My goal is to challenge the student to recognize and understand difficult Latin grammar.

Approach

My approach is manifested in a technique I call the "puzzle strategy." Here, I invite the student to 'dissect' the sentence, i.e. identify and isolate each different grammatical structure in Latin such as the subject(s), verb(s), etc. In this way, the sentence seems less disorganized and ambiguous but rather more manageable and lucid. Once the student establishes each piece of the sentence, the puzzle becomes much easier to solve. This method has proven successful and guarantees improvement.
