Fun Facts

I am an avid computer geek, and I love anything related to space. I hope to one day become a programmer at NASA for their space rovers, like the Mars rover Curiousity. In my leisure time I am either hiking, playing video games, or doing yard work.

About Me

I am a Junior at San Jose State University currently pursuing a Computer Science degree. I transferred from West Valley College in the Fall 2015 semester with a GPA of 3.2, and about 45 units of Math under my belt. I took all the programming courses West Valley had to offer, which included a semester of C, two semesters of C++, two semesters of Java, and one semester of Assembly.

Experience

While I was at West Valley College for two years, I tutored English in their writing center. It was a casual, but professional, setting where students had the opportunity to work alongside other students who were tutors (me) who were going through the same course work. I'd work Monday through Friday up to five hours a day. Each day, I was always eager to help students alleviate some stress by helping them make sense out of their coursework. I never received negative feedback.

Approach

I believe that everybody has the capacity to learn anything they set their minds to; however, often times students feel too overwhelmed when they are looking at something that is seemingly beyond their capacity to learn. Consequentially, I like to challenge the students I tutor to apply their knowledge beyond what we discuss after we have satisfactorily covered the topic. I believe that students become more engaged in their education when they can eventually apply their knowledge independently.

C++ Tutoring

Intro. to C++
I got an A in this course and assisted classmates with understanding assignments, like how to create a blackjack game.

C++ Data Structures
I got an A in the second semester of C++, and I also helped classmates understand what was happening in the code. This class was mostly about code comprehension rather than creating code.
