Fun Facts

My name is Valentine Shade Hoy the sixth. I am originally a baseball player, but threw my arm out and converted to football, which brought me to University of Puget Sound. I have an intense love for cooking and reading philosophy. Recently I got my EMT -B/ W-EMT/ MPIC certifications. I have been making ceramics 'throwing' on the wheel since I was 10 years old. I believe that hobbies are a thing best juxtaposed and lateral interest is a lost art.

About Me

In school I am currently focused in the humanities. My major is philosophy but I also take classes in English and Latin. My philosophy spills out into math as formal logic which is the formal symbolization of language using math to trace thought (a form of higher-level Algebra). I have taken classes in the sciences and math and graduated from the IB program in High School. My true intellectual love lies in conceptualizing abstract concepts- something I emphasize in my washington/washington/tacoma">tacoma">tutoring.

In the past I have worked with Sylvan washington/washington/tacoma">tacoma">Tutoring where we had group lessons of usually five students. I have had the chance to interact with many questions and have found certain areas of struggle that have lead me to focus on keeping concentration levels high, writing out the problem clearly, and understanding not only the underlying process and concept behind the problem, but also what the question is asking of you.

My academic history involves a energetic and excitable past with a zealous devotion to sports that at times distracted from studiousness. My mother and teachers worked with me to correct these distractions, but it was not until I found a deep love for learning that I took it upon myself to do all of these things. Even still, I found that the organization of materials and essays, as well as clearly written math problems helped me to overcome the carelessness of being a young boy. My focus is on organizational skills, which are not at all limited to putting papers in the right places and color coding.
