Fun Facts

I enjoy staying active and being outdoors with hobbies such as hiking, biking, yoga, and running with my two dogs. I also love reading and am a huge fan of the classics such as Dickens, Austen, Hugo, and the Brontë sisters. Coming from a large family that has an even larger love for athletics, I grew up watching all kinds of sports from college football to golf. Although my basketball skills may be lacking, I am a HUGE Los Angeles Lakers fan!

About Me

I am a Senior Psychology major with a minor in education/california/los-angeles">Special Education at Loyola Marymount University. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and decided to stay local while pursuing my Bachelor's degree. My multiethnic background of Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Hawaiian, and Filipino decent motivates me to find ways to become an active member in my community, while also learning about the many different cultures and traditions of my neighbors.

As a member of the California Scholarship Federation from my freshman to senior year of high school at Bishop Montgomery in Torrance, I tutored some of my peers in Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, and Geometry), Science (Biology and Chemistry), and the Honors English Program (Honors English I & II, AP Language & Composition, and AP Literature & Composition). I also have experience tutoring students in middle and elementary school in English, Math, as well as teaching them note taking and comprehension skills that were applied to all aspects of their school work. During my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Japan through the organization Youth for Understanding where I taught/tutored students in elementary school, middle school, and high school English language lessons.

During my sophomore year at Loyola Marymount University, I was a Teacher's Assistant to Dr. Judith Foy for an Experimental Methods Psychology course. Currently, I am a Research Assistant for Dr. Foy. I am also involved in the Bookworm Project, which aims to prevent reading failure by bringing at-risk children up to grade-level by the end of their kindergarten year. During the fall semester of my junior year, I was inducted as a member of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology.

Approach

I strongly believe that every student is unique; therefore, it is difficult to adopt an employ only one style or approach to tutoring. After getting a feel of my student's strengths and weaknesses, I then develop a lesson plan that plays to those strengths that they have.
