Fun Facts

I have many Interests that can keep me busy if I can afford to let them. One of my interests I got into in middle school was aquariums. I like to set up Fresh water fish tanks for new owners who need help in deciding what type of environment and fish they want to create. Another hobby I picked up in college. I am very interested in electronics and electronic design. Once I reached college I began learning about electronics and joined the robotics team. I never fully built a robot by myself but I always worked in teams, which I liked because I got to glean information from them. For my Undergraduate senior design project I built an air compressed engine. It was not very efficient; however this showed that I begin paying attention to future world problems. In this case I was trying to figure a way to create less pollution from our vehicles. From here I started gardening and mixing my previous hobby of aquariums and fish. Now one of my new interests is aquaponics in which we use fish waste as nutrients for vegetable plant growth.

About Me

I am currently enrolled as a graduate student in the school of Humanities because I am getting my masters of arts in education. I have a strong desire to teach and help people understand math, science, and more importantly about future world problems in which we need new innovative thinkers (e.g. water and energy shortages)! I also have an Undergraduate degree in Electrical engineering, which means my head is full of fun math and science facts.

I have many hours of tutoring experience. As long as I can remember I have always been good at math and science. In high school, students from my class would come to me before going to the teacher for help on problems. Sometimes I would be overburden with people around my desk and the teacher would not say anything because the teacher knew I was helping them. When I went to college nothing much changed, I was always able to learn these subjects fairly quickly, which resulted in other people asking for assistance. I also tutored robotics to younger students when I was a junior. It was during a summer that I started working for the Pre-freshmen Engineering Program (PREP) where I was program assistant and mentor. I did PREP for three summers in which I have received high scored evaluations. Once I graduated college I began tutoring my niece and cousins at my grandparents’ home. I did this for a semester and a half in which all my cousins said they learn a lot about math and now are ahead of their class mates in these subjects.

My tutoring approach is that I like to find where the student stand's in their studies first, not only by what the their personal file has, but also by the level of competence they show when I give them a fun review that we can both make up together on our first days of meeting. From here I will teach in incremental steps until the student understand the problem as a whole. Although this can take some time in the beginning, it is worth wild because this allows the student to create a stronger base of understanding, which will help later on more complex lessons.
