Fun Facts

I am a lover of science, education, social justice, dogs, music, the natural world and anything in between. In college I won two National Championships for Women's Ultimate Frisbee at University of Oregon with a group of people I hold close to my heart. Those that I've reveled my nerdy science side to know that I am extremely passionate about Honey Bees. They are some of the most incredibly complex and hardworking organisms on this planet. I like to think a honey bee is my patronus.

About Me

I am a recent graduate from University Of Oregon in Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology. There I was a club athlete and a cadet in the Army ROTC program, now a 2nd Lieutenant of the Army Medical Service. I like exploring the world, staying active, and enjoying time with the people I love. I hope in the future to be doing more science education outdoors and maybe even be able to study Apis mellifera and sustainable agriculture. My ultimate goal is to be doing work I believe to be important.

Experience

Education is a passion! My last position was teaching environmental science to 6th graders along the Salmon River near Portland, Oregon. Now I am currently working for a partner of the Detroit Public schools co-teaching and individualized tutoring. Throughout college I both volunteered my time and worked as a tutor for high school and middle school students. I have a good amount of experience with students and enjoy getting to know the students I work with.

Approach

To be completely honest, I struggled in school, middle school, high school, college. Mostly due to the fact that I didn't know how to take tests. But I could always explain what I was learning. Through this I found myself to be a pretty awesome educator. Because I've had to work so hard to understand material myself, I know how and where students struggle. I'm not a book smart genius. I am someone who will work through information with you and do so in a way that it will make sense.
