Fun Facts
I love theory. Barthes and Derrida are my guys! But I'm also not afraid to indulge in some beach reads reads. I also love to bake and as the oldest of seven, frequently teach my younger siblings how to as well.
About Me
I am a student in the English graduate program at UTSA focusing in poststructuralist American literature and creative writing. After finishing my masters I hope to continue on to a PhD program and eventually teach literature and creative writing at a collegiate level.
I am the oldest of seven, the youngest is two, so I have lots of personal experience working with a wide range of ages, including special needs as once of my siblings has autism.
Experience
After finishing my undergraduate degree I worked in a tutoring center while I was waiting to start graduate school. I enjoyed the experience and found it rewarding. Helping students makes me excited that I can pass on my love of literature, reading, and the joys of writing to the upcoming generations.
Approach
I find that children are more receptive to ideas when they feel that they have come up with them themselves, so I like to use the Socratic method, using leading but gentle questions, to help the child find the answers. This also helps them build the logical thinking process that will help all through their life. This method also helps problems seem less daunting for the child by attacking problems in small.sections instead of all at once.
