
Fun Facts
I love musical theater, although I can't sing at all. I also like to spend my time running, playing the cello, and studying Japanese. I grew up in New Jersey, but moved to Portland when I started college.
About Me
I have a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Reed College, where I was commended for excellence in scholarship. I'm planning to attend graduate school next year and enter a career in chemistry research.
Experience
I spent last year teaching English at a high school in Japan. My teaching experiences before that ranged from homework help for elementary school students to leading tours of a nuclear reactor. I've been tutoring one-on-one in a variety of subjects since high school. I’m comfortable working with students of any age and level, and am excited to continue helping people learn.
Approach
I focus on talking to the student about their needs and adapting to their level and learning style. I keep students actively engaged with the material, and incorporate their strengths and interests into how I teach. With this personalized approach, I find ways for students to deeply understand the content and enjoy the tutoring session.

When I took the SAT as a high school student, I earned a overall score of 2390 and a math score of 790. I have experience working with students on both quantitative skills and the test-taking strategies needed for the SAT.

When I took the SAT as a high school student, I earned a overall score of 2390 (reading 800, math 790, writing 800). I've kept up-to-date on the content and format of the SAT, and have experience working with students on the test-taking strategies needed to excel.
Science Tutoring
I hold a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, with a major GPA of 3.6. I've also taken college courses in physics, earning a grade of 3.7. As a high school student, I took honors courses in biology and chemistry, and AP courses in chemistry and physics, earning no grade lower than a 96.
GRE Tutoring
I took the GRE in 2013, earning a verbal score of 170 (99th percentile) and a quantitative score of 160 (78th percentile). I have experience as a GRE tutor, working with students on both the content and the test-taking strategies needed.
Cello Tutoring
I have been playing the cello since childhood, and taken private lessons for seven years. As a high school student, I performed in my school's orchestra, select ensemble, and theater pit orchestra's. I have also performed as a member of the Reed College Orchestra.
Music Theory Tutoring
I've been playing the cello since childhood, and taking lessons that familiarized me with the theory needed to succeed as a musician. I formalized and expanded this knowledge in music theory courses (Music Theory I & II) at Reed College, where I earned an an overall GPA of 3.7.
ESL/ESOL Tutoring
I taught ESL for a year at a high school in Japan through the JET Program. As well as teaching classes, I worked with individual students on their writing and speaking skills. I coached students on pronunciation and public speaking for a recitation contest.
