Fun Facts

I'm a very active person! I love to rock climb, do yoga, and I am currently training for the Rock n' Roll marathon. My hobbies outside of sports include painting, reading and writing. One day I hope to travel across Europe as an English teacher, but in the meantime I am content spending time with family, friends and my two dogs, Habibi and Loki.

About Me

I am a graduate student at University of Texas at San Antonio studying for my M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language. My B.A. is in English Communication Arts, which I received in 2010 from St. Mary's University. My ultimate goal when I graduate from U.T.S.A. is to go abroad and teach English in Taiwan or South Korea.

As an undergraduate at St. Mary's, I worked with Upward Bound teaching English, writing, and media courses to high school students. At the end of each course the students learned the basic elements of style and grammar and produced a 3 minute short film on their experiences in the program. After college, I moved to San Francisco and worked in a small school as a Marketing Assistant and mentor to the students, which inspired me to move back home (San Antonio) to get a master's degree and work with students through Frog Tutoring.

I love to learn and I think its a shame that so many young people don't realize how exciting school can be. My approach to tutoring has always involved getting to know the student as an individual. Once I know what his/her's goals and interests are, I use that knowledge as a way to show how what is learned in school is relevant to who they want to be tomorrow.
