Fun Facts

I like running and cooking. While I didn't like math in elementary school, it was one school instructor in college that actually understood math and was a "true" teacher. From that time forward I learned to appreciate math and all the wonderful things around us that have to do with math.

About Me

My name is Lisa and I have been in the education field for nearly 20 years now. My background includes being a classroom teacher in grades 1 and 3 in an urban school district. I left the classroom and became a facilitator of mathematics workshops for school districts and teachers implementing standards based mathematics curriculum in Grades K thru 5. My decision to leave the classroom was motivated by the fact that I could impact more classrooms by teaching teachers who could then take back best practices to their classrooms and thus impact a larger number of students than I could one classroom at a time. I currently am a researcher and am working on my PhD in Curriculum Studies with and emphasis on mathematics education. My work entails observing mathematics instruction in Grades 3, 4 an 5 to learn how curriculum assessments impact students learning. I analyze how student learning is impacted and how interaction with the teacher, the curriculum and with one another during instruction plays a role in the learning process. Currently I am a PhD student in Curriculum Studies with a concentration in mathematics education.

My ethos for chicago">tutoring has been shaped from my experience as a classroom teacher and has been strengthened from the work and research about student learning and practices that enhance and fosters a rich learning experience for students. I have tutored for 4 years now and this has helped me in staying attuned to the students needs and keeping my skill in the teacher role in tact. My chicago">tutoring assignments have been in several schools within the Chicago Public Schools district with diverse student demographic.

My strength in chicago">tutoring comes from my own ability as a teacher which an innate skill along with the knowledge I have gained in my roll as project manager for a mathematics research initiative and the wealth of knowledge I have gained from reading in my pursuits for a doctorate.
