Fun Facts
Hi! A fun fact about me is that I have been to nearly half of all the states in the U.S.! I love animals and if I see one I'll instantly want to pet it. I lived in Minnesota for two years and in Cuba for eight. I like to read ALOT and the bigger the book the better! Ed Sheehan is my favorite musician and during my free time I am likely to be in a cafe drinking tea listening to his music as I read a good book! :)
About Me
I am a junior English Education major at FIU and plan to graduate in the spring with high honors. I love volunteering and during spring break 2012 I got the opportunity to build a home in Tennessee. I can't wait to begin working as an educator and hope to teach abroad for some time after graduation!
Experience
I have previous tutoring experience in English, writing, and grammar. I have always been a member of the English honor society beginning in High School. As an education major I have precious experience in both student management and in various learning instructions to target each student individually no matter how difficult they find the subject area.
Approach
As a child of immigrant parents who did not speak english I had no one to help me but great educators. I am a firm believer that given the right help every student can succeed. Each student can achieve their full potential. I plan on encouraging each student to do just that. At times one simply does not understand the material or what they are doing wrong, as a future educator I am capable of re-teaching each lesson so that the learner will undoubtedly comprehend each concept they find hard.

English Education
English Tutoring
I can tutor Shakespeare Comedies and Dramas as an english major I have learned these subjects and have read all of the plays. I can also tutor poetic form and comprehension as I have taken courses that teach me how to do this. I can tutor all English concepts as I have not only taken various english classes but have passed all of them with an A or a B.
Writing Tutoring
I am very good in grammar and linguistics and this semester I am taking an advanced linguistics class to further my understanding. I can help students with not only writing an A paper but also in how to organize ideas and concepts in the most logical manner. I can teach each student how to be an effective and engaiging writer.
SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
As a high school student this was the subject field I was the most confident in. As a college student who takes advanced English, grammar, and linguistics classes I now have an extensive vocabulary and have improved my writing skills. I am so good in this field that I did not have to take freshman and sophomore college English level classes. Yes that's right I tested out of them with CLEP. This test comes from the same company that creates the SAT. By passing it I demonstrated that I had master the concepts typically covered in these first English college level classes.I can help each student to not only pass their exams with a good score but also to pass the CLEP so they don't have to take these English entry classes!
Writing Advance Tutoring
I am a writer. I have taken numerous writing courses varying from creative writing, fiction writing, and poetic writing. As an English major I am also very good at writing academic papers. I have writing science(research) papers, papers that compare two or more works while creating a unifying thesis, and papers that use plenty of outside research to prove a point. I have written papers with good grammar, thought provoking ideas and concepts, but most importantly I have never written a paper that got less than a B in college.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
This is the subject that most students today do not perform well in. I believe that with my help as a tutor I can teach each student the techniques they need to maintain their focus throughout each reading. With maintained focus the student will not only be able to comprehend what they are reading but to connect the reading to other material. As a future English educator I have been taught research based approaches so that each student can comprehend grade level material.
Study Skills Tutoring
Studying is important and starting early can improve the learners ability to comprehend the material and to carry on a good habit throughout the remaining length of their education. I know good study habits and skills that can help the student master the material they learn, not just memorize.
