Fun Facts
I love creative arts. I enjoy writing of all types, reading, singing, and playing guitar. Most of my free time on the weekends is doing one of these activities. I want to learn how to play a few more instruments, like electric guitar, bass, drums, and piano.
About Me
I just graduated with my BA in English and BS in Psychology from Howard University and am going on to complete a Master's program at Brown University School of Public health. I enjoy reading, writing, and singing in my free time.
Experience
I began tutoring my peers in high school in all subjects, but mostly math and humanities. I have been a writing center tutor at Howard University for two years, and also tutor at the writing Center at Brown University. I also with the youth group at my church, and have experience teaching swim lessons to younger kids. Working for Frog Tutoring will allow me to fully pursue my passion for education and mentorship.
Approach
When I was very young, my mother ran a home school program, so I learned how to read and do basic math before attending school. In high school, it was difficult for me to focus and study for exams or complete long assignments, and I learned how to manage my time and find a strategy that works for me. I recognize that people have different ways of working, and it really important to help students realize what methods work best for them.

I have taken many literature courses as an English major, covering British, American, and African American literature, and the notable time periods and movement associated with each. I am familiar with the distinguishing characteristics of different types of literature, and am experienced with nonfiction, fiction, graphic novels, plays, and poetry.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
As an English major, reading comprehension is a skill that all students must perfect. As part of my liberal arts education, I have developed this skill further and have experience gleaning information from social sciences and humanities courses. Since psychology is my second major, I am also experienced with reading scientific articles and extracting the main points.
Writing Tutoring
As an English major, good writing is a craft that is part of the program. I am experienced writing academic papers, as well as creative writing and poetry. I have taken two creative writing courses (fiction and nonfiction), and have taken numerous courses that require academic writing. I am a tutor at my university's writing center as well, so I have a lot of experience with coaching people how to improve their grammar, organization, mechanics, style, and content in their essays.

Study Skills Tutoring
From personal experience, I know that many different people have different study methods. I have taken a psychology course about learning that outlines how people learn, and acknowledges the different methods people use to retain and retrieve information. As a tutor on campus, I have experience helping others discover what methods work best for them.

As a university student, fluency in Microsoft office is essential for success. Microsoft excel has many functions that can be useful for projects or personal organization. I have experience creating multiple page spreadsheets, charts, calendars, and data tables using Excel.

As a university student, fluency in Microsoft office is essential for success. I have used Microsoft powerpoint for several classes, incorporating different types of media like video, text, audio, pictures, etc.

My primary computer runs on a Windows system (currently Windows 10). I consider myself tech savvy, have learn many shortcuts and applications that come with the system.
