Fun Facts

One of my biggest passions is playing the piano. I have been playing for 17 years, being classically trained for eight, and have been experimenting with several other genres for the past nine years. I have visited France 17 times, but I've only been to Paris once! I thoroughly enjoy playing and watching soccer. From time to time I perform spoken word poetry.

About Me

I am a junior doing a B.S. in Finance and Economics at the George Washington University. I have a 3.57 GPA in my major. Following graduation, I intend to pursue a doctorate in economics with a specialization in Behavioral Economics. I hope to one day be a tenured university professor in economics at an esteemed institution.

Experience

During my sophomore year at GWU, I was a tutor at the GW Tutoring Initiative. I tutored microeconomics, calculus, and statistics. While I was there I developed a few key skills. One was being able to synthesize complicated concepts into easy to understand lessons by use of analogies. Another was strengthening students’ confidence in approaching difficult problems independently through deliberate repetition exercises. As a result off my efforts, students grades improved tremendously.

Approach

When I was at the lowest point of my academic career, struggling through an advanced pre-calculus/calc class my junior year of high school, my mathematics teacher inspired me. His philosophy was if a student was confused with a problem, they should do "every exercise in the book". While I won't be this demanding with who I'm tutoring, repetition is one of the keys to improving in anything. My approach includes not just teaching what or how to do something, but to know why they're doing it.

Calculus I Tutoring

Single-Variable Calculus I: A
Single-Variable Calculus II: B+
Multivariable Calculus: B+

I have had extensive experience in successfully tutoring GW freshman and sophomores in Calculus I. I love the subject. I have used Calculus I in most of my Econ classes (intermediated micro, intermediate macro, econometrics, and game theory)

Macro Economics Tutoring

Econ 1012- Principles of Macroeconomics: A-

Tutored many freshman at GW in introductory macroeconomics. I'm passionate about economics, and put a great deal of effort to get students more energized and engaged in the subject material. Economics can be a dry subject, so enthusiasm is a necessity. I want to get a doctorate in economics, so I know this subject very very well.

Micro-Economics Tutoring

Econ 1011- Principles of Microeconomics: A-
Econometrics: A
Intermediate Microeconomics: B+

I have tutored and helped many struggling GW freshman on the principles of micro-economics. The subject is not intuitive and can be challenging for most people. Having taken many courses that utilize microeconomic theory as a tool, this has given me insight in how to understand and teach this confusing topic clearly. I love economics and will most likely devote the rest of my life to the subject. Micro-economics is the most fundamental course to everything I practice moving forward, so I have a deep understanding of the subject.

Piano Tutoring

I have been playing the piano for 17 years. I was classically trained for 8, played Jazz for 3, and have since been self-taught and been playing contemporary music as well as composing.

I have given private lessons to friends, but have never tutored piano before. That being said, I am a very kind and patient teacher. The most important thing I care about is that the student is better today than they were yesterday. Progress no matter how small is what I value. I can be most useful for beginner students.
