I am originally from washington/seattle">Seattle, the city surrounded by ocean and mountains. Sometimes I miss not having Mt. Rainer around so I can tell what direction I'm facing when I get out of a subway. Yes I like the rain, no I don't like Pearl Jam. My second favorite sport to play and sometimes to watch is soccer (Go Sounders!). My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE sport though is reading. About Me
Currently, I am finishing my last year of Graduate School at queens-college">Queens College for a Masters in Creative Writing. I went to the washington">University of Washington for my undergraduate studies, obtaining a Mathematics and English Lit Bachelors Degree. Professionally, I want to one day survive off of writing, either through novels or teaching or a combination of the two.
Being the eldest brother, I was born into brooklyn">tutoring. If I remember correctly, the first lesson I taught was on the book My Side of the Mountain. Outside of familial obligations, I have freelanced as a brooklyn">tutor for family friends, church parishioners, and community members. Also, I volunteered at 826 washington/seattle">Seattle for two years. There, I tutored ages 6-16 in any subject they wanted during the week, and on weekends, we worked specifically on writing.
Math, throughout grade school and high school, came easy to me. But when I got to college, my appointed expertise with Math suddenly disappeared. For the first time I really had to work at understanding the material, which was a valuable lesson. I know what it feels like to "not get" something. When teaching others, I believe that a patient demeanor is the most helpful approach. I can explain ideas, but, more importantly, I listen to the student in order to best figure out a method to achieve their goals.
