Fun Facts

It will not take long to notice but I am very passionate about animals! I am an intern at the Carolina Raptor Center along with Discovery Place: I mainly work with reptiles (birds are my favorite!). I absolutely love traveling and I spent this past summer living in Costa Rica, working with sloths and other rainforest creatures. I love any outdoor adventure and last summer I also went hiking over 100 miles throughout Montana and Wyoming. My dad taught me how to play tennis from a young age.

About Me

I am a junior biology major at queens-university-of-charlotte">Queens University of Charlotte, I have been on the dean's list every semester of college, and I was the valedictorian of my high school. When I graduate, I hope to attend veterinary school at North Carolina State University or go to graduate school to get a PhD in either pinniped ecology or wildlife biology. My ultimate goal is to have a job that combines three of my favorite things in life: travel, animals, and teaching.

My charlotte">tutoring career began over five years ago when I was a teaching assistant for my sophomore pre-calculus class in high school. My teacher recognized my passion for helping others and began recommending my name to students who were struggling in math and science classes. Before long I had an entourage of people who wanted help in an array of classes. This continued at my university when I applied my freshman year to become a study skills, chemistry, biostatistics, and biology charlotte">tutor. I also volunteer at a local elementary school conducting science experiments with kids, in order to instill a sense of enthusiasm towards science in them. I love being able to help students piece together the materials in their classes so that they can succeed and accomplish all of their goals in life.

As a middle school student, I struggled in both reading and math classes. This lead me to ask my mom to help me find a charlotte">tutor. Within three weeks of seeing a high school charlotte">tutor, my grades went from C's to A's. I base my charlotte">tutoring methods on both the strategies that were first used to help me succeed in addition to the skills I have been taught from my previous charlotte">tutoring experiences. I tend to take what I call the "swimming approach" when it comes to charlotte">tutoring. Just like taking swimming lessons, I like to ease the student in the body of water (school material) and let them take the initial plunge. I choose not to reveal all of the answers too hastily so that the student has the time to formulate an answer.
