Fun Facts
In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, listening to and playing music, and reading literature. Travel is another passion of mine, and I have been fortunate to have travelled around the world through the support of scholarships and research grants. After a year of studying Russian language, I started an undergraduate research group at the Harriman Institute at maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia, focused on Russian affairs. I eventually led the group to present at conferences in Boston, Palo Alto, and Moscow.
About Me
I am a recently graduated alumnus of maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University, where I majored in political science and French. Additionally, I have excelled in numerous economics courses, and spent two summers working in finance. I am fluent in professional French, and I am headed to Paris to work at a major law firm in 2013. I chose this path because it ideally joins my interests in geopolitical affairs and business. Since graduating in May, I have written a comprehensive French-language report on the influence of French consulting agencies in implementing Basel III financial regulations.
My most recent manhattan">tutoring experience was in college, as an undergraduate peer manhattan">tutor for French grammar and English language composition. This work enabled me to act as a liaison between professors and students. Earlier, as a counselor at a Jewish summer camp, I helped prepare younger campers for their Bar and Bat Mitzvah studies. I have further experience working with middle-school aged children as a YMCA swim instructor in Westport, CT. My interest in education began in high school, where I founded an educational philanthropy, School Days International. Through bi-annual fundraisers I provided provisions such as meals and supplies to schools in Ghana and Haiti, and later sent student delegates to build infrastructure.
I am a firm advocate of the rewards associated with dedication and hard work. That being said, I have always found success in the philosophy of working smart as well. Without the proper type of study suited to the individual, hard work can become frustrating while producing marginal results. Yet when a student dedicates herself to an effective study technique, hard work will result in outstanding achievement. I apply this principle to my manhattan">tutoring by actively engaging the student. My experience as a peer manhattan">tutor over the past four years has taught me that one retains information more thoroughly when challenged to reach the answer oneself.
