Fun Facts
My name is Jonathan Bourque and I want to be the teacher who will inspire his future students both academically and socially. I believe it is important to not only teach the students, but to also see them as equals and as friends working together throughout the year. I am also a big sports fan, I like to do drafting/engineering as a hobby, and love history!
About Me
Currently going to Southern Connecticut State University for Collaborative (Elementary and Special Education) Teaching with a second major in IDS (Creative Writing and STEM: Math/Science).
Experience
I have gone to elementary schools such as Mauro-Sheridan and Savin Rock for teacher observations where I helped the students with their classwork and saw just how important it really is to be a teacher. I also have a 23 year old sister with disabilities and a 15 year old brother with troubles in schoolwork that I help with.
Approach
When I was in high school, I was in a drafting class. In that class, I met one of the smartest and nicest teacher I ever had in school. He showed me everything about drafting, architecture, engineering, and how to apply all of these to other subjects such as writing, art, history, and more. He inspired me to keep going in school and to follow my dreams. I will never forget him and that's what I aspire to be as a future teacher.

English Tutoring
I have co-taught students at a 2nd grade and 3rd grade level with English. I helped a student take a spelling test and assisted students in vocabulary and spelling skills. I also helped students in reading and comprehending English. I have also completed student teaching in a third grade setting where I taught phonics and writing instruction.
Math Tutoring
I have co-taught math instruction to a group of students at a 2nd and 3rd grade level. This also includes student teaching at a third grade level. I have also tutored a 5th grade student with math computation.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I helped students at Savin Rock Elementary School in West Haven, CT with math on a 1st grade level, along with math at a 3rd grade level at Mauro-Sheridan. I assisted in helpiing students learn math equations at their grade level, multiplication, division, and problem solving. I also helped with computer math classes where the student did math problems on a computer program.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have helped students with reading at Mauro-Sheridan Magnet School. I was in a group with children who had struggles with reading and assisted them with sounding out words, sentences, and paragraphs. I also helped in finding the overall meaning behind the words and messages behind the book.
Social Studies Tutoring
I have taken numerous history and social studies classes over the years, including American History, African American history, and more. I understand the meanings behind numerous events in American history such as the early years, the Civil War, and the World Wars. I also know important documents such as the Declaration of Independence and why they are essential to know for children.
Writing Tutoring
I have taken numerous creative writing classes in college including fiction writing and poetry writing. I have had great reception from my professors about my writing in both creative writing and in critical analysis papers. I understand what makes a paper good and how to give beneficial feedback that would help further a child's writing.
History Tutoring
During student teaching, I assisted students in sixth grade social studies lessons in a resource room.
Middle School Math Tutoring
During student teaching, I collaborated with the special education teacher and the middle school math teacher in order to co-teach math subjects and taught full lessons in a resource room.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
During student teaching, I collaborated with the special education teacher and the middle school language arts teacher in order to help assist and teach full lessons in reading and writing.
