About Me

I have just graduated from the University of Portland with a BA in Mathematics, cumulative GPA 3.5. My short term goals include earning certification to teach English as a foreign language. My long term goals include further studies in higher ed. and communications.

Experience

Last year I spent a summer in Kenya assisting in the development of elementary computer classes, while also teaching mathematics at the local elementary school. In the states I have tutored at the elementary, high school, and college level for mathematics, and informally assisted my two younger sisters in many other subjects. I also have extensive experience leading elementary small groups in educational, sporting, and creative activities.

Approach

I love school so much that I am having a hard time leaving the location of my undergraduate studies. My goal is to help other students find this love as well. This love evolved because of just a couple teachers who demonstrated their belief in me by expecting high quality work, while also providing the support and interest I needed to develop such work. If a teacher can demonstrate her trust and belief in a learner's ability to work hard, she has nurtured the process of life-long learning.
