Fun Facts
I have found that I become passionate and obsessed with the sport or activity I am doing at that time. Lately, I have been loving golf and gardening! I spend so much time doing those activities. Other times it has been snowboarding and hiking. I just love trying new things and being adventurous.
About Me
I am a third grade teacher going into my 3rd year. I went to central-michigan-university">Central Michigan University where I majored in Mathematics and minored in Reading both for my Elementary Education Major. I also coach 8th grade girls basketball and have done so for 3 years. I have a passion for teaching and seeing children succeed- there is no greater feeling of accomplishment.
Experience
As I mentioned above, I have taught 3rd grade for 2 years. Previous to my teaching job, I student taught in 5th grade and did substitute jobs K-8. I have tutored 7 students grade 3 -grade 7 over the past two years. I do a assessment my first day to learn more about the student and use that to make my lesson plans and prepare the materials.
Approach
As a teacher, I have many methods and strategies to help students understand and learn. I have had many students in my class grow a love of learning through my energetic, hands on teaching approach. I feel it is important to create rapport with the student and get to know them. They need to know you are invested in them and believe in them but also it helps to tailor your lessons to fit their learning style and interests. I want students to leave our detroit">tutoring sessions feeling confident!

K-8 Mathematics
Homework Coach Tutoring
I have helped many Middle School students with their homework and study skills while being their basketball coach. I broke it down into chunks to make it less overwhelming. I also bought them planners and we discussed how to use it to manage time more effectively. Lastly, I showed them the importance of homework to motivate them to complete it.
Math Tutoring
I subbed in 6th-8th grade math classroom for 3 months before receiving my teaching job. I have also tutored in the subject of Algebra and Algebra 2. Lastly, I took many hard math classes (over 30 credit hours) like Calculus, Calculus 2, Discrete Mathematics, Proof mathematics, Math theory and more.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Reading Comprehension is such a vital piece of the puzzle for a student. I have made reading comprehension my main purpose my last 2 years of teaching and besides my reading minor classes in college, I have also attended many workshops that help teach reading comprehension.
Elementary Math Tutoring
Math is my major and I have been successfully teaching it through school and tutoring for 3 years. I have taken over 30 credit hours of math in college and had over a 3.5 GPA in this particular area.
Study Skills Tutoring
I have had to teach study skills to students 3rd grade-8th grade. I am qualified for this position because my personal study skills helped me achieve a 3.95 GPA in high school and a 3.89 overall GPA in college. Also, I apply my knowledge to help students get organized and manage their time effectively.
Writing Tutoring
I have taught writing in my own classroom but it was a main focus of 2 of my students I tutor. I successfully personalized lessons plans based on their interests, needs and the Common Core State Standards for their grade level. I make writing fun and took many writing classes in college as it is an important part of the education program.
GED Tutoring
During my college years, I tutored a man for 1 year who was trying to get his GED. I took his study guide and made materials that broke down each subject and made it less overwhelming. He learned the material, gained confidence and passed the test!
