About Me
I am a semi retired English teacher - I have taught junior high,high school, and college. I have taught gifted and talented students, AP students, dual credit students, and regular students. I have a Masters in Education and additional graduate English hours that certify me to teach college level English. I love to read and write. My strength as a teacher was finding a way to help all of my students be successful.
Experience
I have taught and tutored students for over 30 years. I have a variety of experience teaching students on all levels. I have even tutored a young man on the ASVAB after he failed it two times. He is in the army now and they are putting him through college! My daughter went to TCU so I am familiar with the school and its standards. I enjoy helping students succeed achieving their goals.
Approach
I believe that every student can be successful; he or she just has to discover the methods that are most effective for them to learn. As a classroom teacher I had to discover what worked for each of my students so that they all lived up to their potential. That means I had to use a variety of methods in teaching a diversified group of students. I am persistent in finding what works for each student.

As an English teacher I have spent much time on English composition. As a high school teacher the focus was on Taks and Starr essay writing, in addition to college essays and application letters. I also taught AP English and am proficient in teaching the AP essay. As an English professor the focus has been on English composition covering narrative, informative, causal, argumentative/persuasive, rhetorical, and analytical. I am highly skilled in mla format and research techniques.
Literature Tutoring
I have been teaching English literature for over 20 years. I have taught a variety of novels, short stories,poetry and essays. As an college English professor I have taught both American literature and British literature. My experience covers junior high, high school and college.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have been teaching reading comprehension for over 20 years as part of the English curriculum for every grade level. In addition I have taught developmental reading and writing classes at the college level.
Study Skills Tutoring
Teaching study skills is part of my job as a teacher. Most high school students and college freshman need help in this area. I have developed numerous tools to help students learn to study more effectively. In addition, I teach an outside study skills class.
AP English Tutoring
I have taught AP English and am qualified to tutor for the AP test.
SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring
As an English professor, I am proficient in both the reading and writing portion of the SAT test. The writing portion of the test covers grammar rules, and the new writing test is an analysis of an author's writing. I have completed a training on the new test.
Writing Advance Tutoring
As a college English professor I will be able to increase the level of your writing. There are several methods that can be used to move your writing from a high school level to a college level essay. As a high school dual credit teacher I taught my juniors and seniors how to do this effectively.
Writing Tutoring
I was a middle school teacher for 12 years and am familiar with the requirements for the state Staar test for both the analysis questions and the expository essay.
